A keloid is the formation of a type of scar which is composed mainly of type 1 (late) or type 3 (early) collagen. They result in an overgrowth of granulation tissue at the site of a healed skin injury which is then slowly replaced by collagen type 1. Keloids are rubbery, firm lesions or fibrous, shiny nodules, and can vary from natural skin color to pink.
The keloid is also known as a scar that won’t stop. A keloid scar rises quite abruptly above the rest of the skin and itis tough with headed-up scar. Keloids start growing after sometime of the initial injury and extend beyond the wound site. They often appear after injury or surgery, but they can also appear from inflammation or spontaneously. We have here 10 remedies that will help you get rid of keloids.
1. Lemon juice
Lemon juice contains vitamin C and antioxidants and is very helpful in treating various types of scars, including keloids. Use fresh lemon juice and apply it to the affected area. Leave it to work for 30 minutes and then wash the area.
2. Mustard oil
Mustard oil makes an ideal cure for keloids because it is a powerful antifungal agent. Take mustard oil and apply it to the skin about 3 times every day.
3. Apple Cider Vinegar
ACV minimizes the redness and size of the scar. First, apply ACV directly on the affected area and gently massage it so the vinegar absorbs into the skin. Before repeating the process allow the ACV to dry, so it will heal faster.
Garlic prevents the excessive fibroblast proliferation that leads to keloids. Apply garlic oil to the skin and leave it on for 10 minutes, then thoroughly wash the scar.
5. Baking Soda
Baking soda is a very good abrasive agent and exfoliates the skin. Mix 3 parts of peroxide andone part of baking soda to make a paste. Apply the paste directly on the skin to speed up the healing process and reduce inflammation.
6. Aloe vera
Aloe Vera is great for a lot of skin conditions because it helps heal damaged skin,reduce inflammation and keeps the skin moisturized. Clean the area first with lukewarm water. Then, apply fresh aloe gel on the scars.
7. Lavender oil
Lavender oil has skin cell rejuvenating properties that help with forms of scarring. It also helps increase skin cell turnover, which is highly beneficial in preventing scars from becoming permanent. Apply lavender oil and massage the area gently for several minutes.
8. Sandalwood and rosewater
Rose water is a natural skin toner andsandalwood has skin regenerating properties. Make a thick paste of rose water and sandalwood. Clean the scar with water first and then apply the paste to the area before going to bed, and first thing in the morning wash the area with lukewarm water.
Honey is a natural humectant that moisturizes and heals the skin. Apply fresh honey to the scar and massage the area gently, this will prevent accumulation of dead skin cells and improve blood circulation.
10. Fuller’s earth
Mix one teaspoon of rose water, one teaspoon of lemon juice and one tablespoon of fuller’s earthto make a paste. Apply the paste on the affected area and massage gently until the scar becomes soft. Let the skin dry, then immediately apply another layer. Leave the mixture for 10-15 minutes, then thoroughly wash the area with cold water.
