Selenium is a mineral that our body needs. In small doses it has a positive impact on our health, while in large amounts it can be dangerous.
Too much selenium (200 micrograms per day) was associated with an increased risk of type 2 diabetes, prostate cancer, and a large amount of minerals will have a negative effect on the heart. Selenium is one of the elements that our body is required, but it is necessary to determine the right dosage, explains Mark Mojard, author of “The Supplement Handbook”.
Researchers have previously found that the amount of selenium in the body is associated with fertility. Specifically, women who entered the optimal amounts of this mineral in most cases got pregnant before women who do not get enough.
One of the safest ways to eat enough selenium, and not overdo it, is to enter it through food. What are the foods that you should eat?
1) Brazilian nuts
Brazilian nuts are the best source of selenium with 514 mcg (micrograms) per 30 grams of walnuts (6-7 walnut)
2) Fish
With 95 mcg per serving tuna fish has the second place. Good sources of selenium are also sardines with 45 mcg per serving.
3) Beef and Chicken
Just like fish, meat is also rich in selenium. Steak has 42 mcg, 33 mcg has beef, turkey has 31 mcg and 22 mcg chicken.
4) Homemade cheese
Other than having 20 mcg selenium, but it’s also packed with 130 mg of calcium per 100 grams.
