How to Relieve Your Sinus Infection in 20 Seconds

A tongue and a thumb is everything you need to clear your sinuses in less than 20 seconds.

What Causes Nasal Congestion

Sinus infection and colds are common cause for a stuffy nose. When sinus cavities get inflamed due to infections, bacteria or viruses, the nasal passages get blocked up, making it hard for you to breathe.
Usually, nasal congestion clears up within a week, but you can solve this problem much earlier with this remedy.

How to Clear Your Sinuses in 20 Seconds

Just follow these simple steps:
1. Push your tongue against the top of your mouth and place your thumb between eyebrows.
2. Apply pressure with your thumb for 20 seconds. Your sinuses will begin to drain.

What Is the Science Behind This

A vomer bone is a bone that runs through your nasal passages to your mouth. Lisa DeStefano, D.O., an assistant professor at the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, says that this technique can help the vomer bone to go back and forth. The back and forth motion loosens congestion, allowing your sinuses to drain.

Four Additional DIY Remedies for Nasal Congestion

If the previously mentioned technique doesn`t help, you can find the solution at your home. The following four natural remedies can help you cure your nasal congestion.

  1. Organic Apple Cider Vinegar
Mix eight ounces of warm water with two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and one tablespoon of honey, or you can take one tablespoon apple cider vinegar three times per day. This will help your sinuses to clear up in just a few days.
Also, you can mix half a cup of apple cider vinegar with half a cup of water, heat it on the stove, and inhale the steam with closed mouth and eyes.

  2. Turmeric
Turmeric has strong anti-inflammatory properties due to curcumrin. Just sprinkle some turmeric on your next meal to treat your nasal inflammation.

  3. Nasal Saline Rinse
This is not very comfortable solution because the rinse gets poured through one nostril and out the other to clear the sinuses. However, many people rely on a saline rinse to unblock their sinuses. The mixture consists of a quarter teaspoon of sea salt/pickling salt with one cup of warm water.
Note: If this is your first time in trying a saline rinse, ask someone for assistance and read and follow the instructions on the package very carefully.

  4. Oregano Oil
It is a little bit difficult to find it and a bit expensive as well. But, if you can reach it, simply ingest it, or steam it over the stove and inhale it to clear up your sinuses effectively.
